In demand...the iPhone 5

APPLE fanatics queued outside a Harborough shop in the early hours of this morning in a bid to be among the first to get their hands on the new iPhone 5.

More than 20 people stood outside the 02 shop in St Mary’s Place in a queue that, according to shop staff, stretched past the Co-Op Travel shop next door.

They first arrived as early as 5.30am, with staff at the 02 shop offering the dedicated few breakfast while they waited for the store to open at 8am.

It was a scene repeated at thousands of outlets across the globe as the iPhone 5 was released worldwide.

Some of the larger stores attracted crowds of thousands.

However, Apple has met with criticism following the release of its new iO6 operating system, which has seen the introduction of a new mapping system.

Harborough FM DJ Dave Smith tweeted a screen-grab from the new map system showing former town centre stores Nolan’s Jewellers (now Steffans) and bookshop Ottakers (now Waterstone’s) as being located in The Crescent.

Meanwhile, Great Easton Post Office was situated off High Street in the centre of Harborough.

And the neighbouring town of Daventry was wiped completely off the map and replaced with Leamington.
