A CENTURIES-old tradition will be upheld on Saturday as a church choir carries out the wishes of a former churchwarden who died in 1786.

The Choir of Harborough’s St Dionysius church will sing the Easter hymn ‘Jesus Christ is Risen Today’ at the graveside of William Hubbard at St Mary in Arden Church in Great Bowden Road.

Mr Hubbard requested the service in his will and it has taken place every Easter in living memory.

Choirmaster David Johnson said: “Sadly the choir cannot afterwards spend the bequest of one guinea attached to this service in the Railway Inn on the other side of the road as they once did, since the watering hole has long since disappeared.”

Anyone is welcome to attend the 15-minute ceremony, which takes place at 6pm.
