New HQ for care services

Harborough’s county council care services will be relocating to the district council’s revamped headquarters as part of a move that will save County Hall £800,000.

Leicestershire County Council is moving its social care offices into The Symington Building in Adam and Eve Street, Harborough, from Monday.

And from April, the county council will also operate its museum, library and register office within the district council’s refurbished base.

The social care offices at Brooklands in Northampton Road will close to the public at the end of the day on Friday. There will be no interruption to adults’ or children’s social care services and all planned appointments and visits will take place at the new office from Monday.

The authority says the move to The Symington Building is part of the county council’s work to save £800,000 a year by having fewer but better offices and sharing, where possible, space with district councils.

The Job Centre in Coventry Road will also move to the Symington Building later this year.
