An 11-year old boy was airlifted to hospital after being seriously injured during a rugby match in Harborough.

The boy was playing in a match at Harborough Rugby Club on Sunday when he was stamped on the head after trying to make a tackle.

Due to the potential severity of the injury, a call was made to Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).

The crew took off from base shortly at 11.10am and arrived at the scene within 15 minutes of take-off.

A spokesman for the DLRAA said: “The boy was originally showing signs of disorientation and apparent no sensation to his left arm. On arrival of the crew, the patient was alert but was still struggling to feel anything in his left arm.

“He was quickly and carefully immobilised before being flown to University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire for further assessment. The crew arrived at the hospital at approximately 11:55am.”
