The woman, in her early 50s, had her handbag ripped from her shoulder by a man on a bicycle.

She was walking on the footpath between Bath Street and Naseby Close in the south of the town when the robbery happened, at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 12.

The local woman, who has not been named, was walking towards Naseby Close when she heard a bicycle approaching her from behind.

She stepped aside to let the bicycle pass, but the male cyclist grabbed her bag from her shoulder.

She struggled to hold on to her bag, but the strap broke and the cyclist escaped with the bag, containing cash and personal items.

The woman shouted at the robber - who is described as thin, tall and with mousy-coloured hair - as he cycled off towards Nasbey Close.

This is the second robbery of its kind in the town this year

A woman aged 53 was robbed at 10.10am on Friday, January 15, on a jitty between Symington Rec and Mill Hill Road in the town.

Pc Malc Robert, based in Market Harborough said: “This type of incident is very unusual in the town, but two in the same year is still two too many.”

The woman was not hurt in the latest robbery, but was left very shaken.

The stolen bag is still missing. It was blue with distinctive diamond stitching.

Police are appealing for people in the area at the time to come forward, especially anyone who heard the woman shouting or saw a cyclist in the area.
