Security guards filling up a cash machine at the Co-op in Fleckney were assaulted by three men armed with a crowbar.
The gang then ran from the store with a large amount of cash before escaping the scene in a waiting car.
Police have today launched an appeal into the incident, which happened at about 9.40am on Tuesday, August 6.
A police spokesman said: “Two security officers who were about to fill up at ATM were followed into the store and assaulted by three men, one of whom was carrying a crowbar. One of the security officers suffered minor injuries. The suspects made off with a large quantity of cash
“The suspects ran out of the store and up High Street, then made off in a silver Vauxhall Zafira. This vehicle was found a short time later in Middleton Close, where it is believed they got into a silver BMW 5 series M-Sport, registration AK10 LWP
“This car was then seen to make off towards Wigston. Both of these vehicles are believed to have been driving around the village for about an hour before the robbery.”
Detective Constable Bill Beechey, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was obviously an incredibly distressing incident for the two victims, who fortunately were not seriously injured in the incident.
“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the actual incident take place, but I would also like to speak to anyone who was in the Fleckney area in the hour or so running up to the incident taking place? Did you see the Vauxhall Zafira? Did you notice anyone acting suspiciously?
“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the Middleton Close and Kilby Road area and saw the suspects change vehicle, or either the BMW or Zafira.
“Even the smallest details could help with our enquiry.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Bill Beechey on 101 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted key in his identification number 1924.
