Firefighters from Harborough were called out to the town centre yesterday (Thursday) after a waste-crushing machine was set alight deliberately.
A town fire crew attended the back of the town’s Wilkinson’s store, in the Market Hall car park off Northampton Road, at about 5.15pm, said the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service daily report log.
The waste compactor was set alight after a suspected arson attack, said the log.
Firefighters used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus while putting out the flames and the machine was left ‘severely’ damaged, according to the report.
On the town fire station Facebook page they said crew manager David Wilford was the officer-in-charge during the incident.
“Once the electrics had been isolated the crew could deal with the fire,” they added.
