A hardy team of teachers and parents from a Lutterworth school have signed up for
arguably the toughest obstacle course Britain has to offer.
The Suffering obstacle course at Rockingham Castle, just south of Market Harborough, is not for the faint-hearted.
Set in 400 acres of hills, mud, slopes and forest, the 31-strong team from Sherrier Primary School in Lutterworth will be braving a 10-kilometre course with more than 25 obstacles or a five-kilometre course with more than 15 obstacles.
The course includes challenges with forboding names such as The Press, The Hollow, The Tunnel and Training Gauntlet.
They will be Suffering For Sherrier – as their team name is called – and are drumming up support and sponsorship ahead of the challenge this Saturday.
The team is comprised of seven teachers and 24 parents. Members completed exercises on the school’s ‘trim trail’ during its summer fair last Saturday to raise funds and awareness.
Mum-of-three and school PTA member Anna Elden, who is taking part in the challenge, said: “We raised a record amount of money at the fair and would like to thank all those that helped, donated and came to support the school. The PTA funded the repairs for the trim trail and is now up and running for the children to enjoy.
“Our latest fundraising efforts are focusing on new playground equipment which includes a multi-sport goal/basket ball and cricket posts which really will transform one of the playgrounds.
“Our ‘suffering’ team really need your support.”
They have already broken the £1,000 barrier with the total standing at £1,129 as of yesterday (Wednesday).
Mrs Elden added: “We have never done anything like this before and you must appreciate we are not athletes, most are parents that work hard looking after children.
“I hope people or businesses are able to support our efforts – everything we are doing is to help the children’s school experience, to encourage them to play and socialise and to promote a healthy lifestyle through sport and games.”
The teachers from the school taking part are Miss Coull, Mr Branston, Miss Wallace, Mrs Roche, Miss Starmer, Mr Cooper and Miss Truman.
