All 1,050 pupils were sent home, after it was discovered that the school had no running water, due to a leak in the Burnmill Road area resulting in the water supply being cut off locally.

Market Harborough students were able to walk home, and village students waited while the buses that had just dropped them off were summoned by the school to return and take them home again.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We have no water on site at the moment.

“Everyone turned up as usual this morning (Monday) and everyone had to go home again. Within an hour the site was completely cleared.

“We still don’t know what will happen tomorrow (Tues), but we hope to have more information later today.

“So far we understand that the water company has not been able to locate the leak, which is why the water is still off.”
