A major recruitment drive is being launched by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue to fill vacancies for on-call firefighters at district stations.
On-Call - or retained - firefighters are needed at Harborough, Lutterworth, Kibworth and Billesdon stations.
Those recruited can continue to work their normal day-job, but would remain on-call to deal with a range of emergencies - from fires to traffic accidents.
Applicants must be aged 18 and over and live within four minutes of their station, or six minutes at Billesdon. They are paid an annual fee plus a payment for each callout and extra duties as required.
Training in a range of areas including first aid, team working, fitness, goods vehicle and risk assessments is provided.
Sanjay Bulsara, Harborough district manager for the fire service, said: “Both individuals and employers will gain from joining Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. Employees will be bringing back valuable skills to their place of work through the training they receive.”
A open day is being held at Harborough fire station in Fairfield Road on Saturday, August 31 from 11am-3pm.
It coincides with an event at the police station next door, where there will be family activities and information about becoming a special constable or police support volunteer.
People interested in becoming an on-call firefighter can phone Helen Phillips of Billesdon station on 07973 507949, Peter Holdsworth (Kibworth) on 07711 373336, Dave George (Lutterworth) 07801 429872 or Ben Bee (Harborough) on 07748 988599.
