Rail fares on the up, says train operator

East Midlands Trains has announced that the average increase across all of its fares will be 2.6 per cent.

The firm says the rise equates to an extra 36p on the average single journey and represents the lowest increase in four years.

Fares on around 17 per cent of journeys across its network will be frozen, it said.
