Quiz enthusiasts put their grey matter to the test and helped to raise more than £420 for injured soldiers.
The general knowledge quiz night held at the Shoulder of Mutton pub in Great Bowden on Sunday, March 2, was organised to support injured soldiers’ charity Help for Heroes.
Co-organiser Jo Hill, who ran the event with Anthea Turnbull, thanked the pub for letting them hold it there and HFM presenter Dave Irving for being quizmaster.
They chose Help for Heroes because Anthea’s son is serving in the Forces, while Jo she has met many service personnel through her hobby of taking photos of military aircraft at air shows.
The friends met while doing a bucket collection for the charity at the town’s Tesco store.
Jo said: “It is such a worthwhile cause and close to our hearts.”
They thanked everyone who attended and those who bought raffle tickets, as well as the generous businesses for donating raffle prizes.
They included the pub, hair salons March Hair, Moko, Toni & Guy and The Grooming Room, Shelton’s Barbers, Wildwood restaurant, Harborough Fish Bar, Milo’s cafe, Rude 21 clothing, MDH Sports, Welland Valley Feeds, Pugh & Son, Gardner’s Cakery, Farndon Fields Farm Shop, Heaven at Home, Wilkinson, Solutions, No 10 the florists, Bates Butchers and The Sugar Shack. Quiz members also donated prizes.
The grand total raised was £421.52 which will all go towards supporting injured or wounded military personnel.
Jo added: “It was very well attended, the pub was heaving, and everyone had a brilliant night.”
About 15 teams took part, many of who take part in the weekly Sunday quiz at the pub.
The winning team was The Middle Bowdeners.
