A TERRIFIED young woman was sexually assaulted on a train travelling on the Harborough line between Leicester and Kettering.

British Transport Police (BTP) say the man made sexually-suggestive comments towards his 18-year-old victim before asking her sexual-related questions. He then attempted to kiss her before touching her inappropriately.

The victim, who had boarded the service at Leicester, left the train at Kettering and contacted police shortly after.

The man is believed to have left the service at Wellingborough.

Investigators have released these CCTV images of a man they would like to trace in connection with the incident, which took place on Sunday, September 23 at around 10pm on the 9:53pm Leicester to London service.

The man police would like to speak to is described as of East Asian origin, 5ft 6in tall and of medium build.

He had short, black and messy gelled hair, and was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and blue denim jeans.

Det Cons Kevin Challinor, from BTP, said, “The victim has been extremely traumatised by this attack. Throughout the incident she was intimidated and petrified and was too scared to move; it took her all her courage to get past the man to leave the train. No-one should be made to feel like this, it is vital we trace this man.

“Incidents like this are very rare, but this was clearly a very distressing experience for the victim. We’ll do everything in our power to catch the person responsible.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference NEA/B7 of 11 October 2012.
