Major planning appeals for hundreds of homes in Broughton Astley are to be decided by the Secretary of State for Local Government, Eric Pickles, it was announced today.
Mr Pickles said he will decide the two appeals for sites off Frolesworth Road and Crowfoot Way in the village, rather than handing the matter to a Government Planning Inspector.
The appeals by the developers for both sites followed Harborough District Council’s refusal of permission for housing.
Ivan Crane wants to build 111 homes as well as a sports hall, community centre and sports pitches on the Crowfoot Way site, near Hallbrook School.
The Frolesworth Road scheme, submitted by David Wilson Homes, is for 115 houses.
Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder for planning, Cllr Phil King, said “I am pleased the Secretary of State has stepped in. These are important planning appeals. In the meantime, the excellent work being led by Broughton Astley Parish Council on the ‘Big Plan for Broughton Astley’ can continue.”
