PHOTOS: Crowds enjoy '˜I Love Market Harborough' festival

The event was organised by Sustainable Harborough and took place on The Square between 10am and 4pm. In total 21 organisations were represented, each one highlighting different aspects of sustainability.

The focus of this year’s event was waste with a number of demonstrations from Leicestershire County Council’s waste roadshow and local organisations specifically showing how Harborough residents can recycle, reuse and reduce household waste.

The festival also acted as a showcase for local community sustainability projects which Sustainable Harborough have been involved in setting up or are helping to run. These initiatives included local food supporters EdibLE16 and Harborough Energy, which highlights the changes that families in the Harborough area can make to have an impact both locally, and within their own homes.

Jo Sharman of Sustainable Harborough said: “There seems a genuine curiosity in how people from the area can make a positive difference to their homes or to their businesses within the district,”

The Market Harborough Environment Group also attended as part of the waste roadshow, answering questions from Harborough residents about local council waste collection services and to promote local recycling and waste reduction projects.

Alongside this group there were demonstrations about composting, the Love Food Hate Waste campaign and the successful local Morsbag group.

Sustainable Harborough is a five year project funded through the Big Lottery Fund’s Communities Living Sustainably programme.
