We have launched our Sports Awards 2013 to give a big public pat on the back to the district’s best sports performers and the unsung heroes of our grassroots sporting scene.
The Mail’s awards, now in their 12th year, will be announced on Thursday, November 21, at the Three Swans Hotel in Harborough.
Nominations can be made from today and will close on Friday, November 1.
The district’s sporting scene is a hive of activity, presenting great scope to nominate someone for one of the awards.
The awards are our way of acknowledging the people who deserve an accolade for the tremendous effort they put into their sport – or sports.
And it’s not just the players. We know there are many people behind the scenes who make sport possible every weekend.
The categories for this year are Junior Sportsman of the Year sponsored by CDS Global, Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Sports Personality of the Year, Unsung Hero Award sponsored by Harborough District Leisure Trust, Inspire a Generation Award sponsored by Harborough Sports Alliance, Sportsman of the Year sponsored by The Angel Hotel in High Street, Harborough, Sportswoman of the Year sponsored by Stanair of Telford Way Industrial Estate in Kettering, Team of the Year and Sports Leader of the Year.
The Mail is grateful to Market Harborough Building Society which is the overall event sponsor.
Nominees need to be individuals or teams who live in the district or who compete for clubs in the area.
The winner of the blue ribband Sports Personality of the Year award last year was Fleckney’s Olympic torch bearer Sophie Bingham.
She was given the award for all her work to help sports at Robert Smyth School in Harborough.
The Inspire a Generation Award went to Phil Jarvis, a key contributor to the Harborough District Sport and Activity Alliance.
