Council road bosses have raised no objections over the proposed new Tesco store for Harborough.

Leicestershire County Council’s highways department has submitted a consultation report which raises no traffic concerns about the planning application for the former Focus site.

Tesco wants to create a new store comparable in size to Harborough’s Sainsbury’s supermarket, and a 280-space car park, at the old Focus site in Rockingham Road.

Tesco’s corporate affairs manager Simon Petar told the Mail: “This is an important step in our application to bring more jobs and more choice to Market Harborough.

“The high levels of support we have received from the local community have been very encouraging and we hope we get the opportunity to serve the local community.”

Tesco says it will create 200 jobs.

A date for the crucial planning committee hearing over the plan is no nearer to being confirmed.

A spokesman for Harborough District Council, which will rule on the plan, this week said that a date had still not been set.
