Motorists are being advised to avoid the A5 at Claybrooke Magna near Lutterworth after a fatal road crash this morning (Monday).
A collision was reported at 7.42am on the A5, close to the junction with Highcross Road near the village of Claybrooke Magna, and involved a white lorry with Slovakian number plates and a silver BMW motorbike.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver was not injured.
A 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crash and is now in police custody.
Det Sgt 1522 Mark Watling, from the East Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “It’s anticipated that the A5 will remain closed for a number of hours. Local diversions are in place and motorists are being advised to seek an alternative route.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause but it is necessary to allow for specialist officers to carry out a full examination of the scene and to ensure the road is cleared so it’s safe for other road users.”
He added: “Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand is asked to contact the police if they haven’t already.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the police 101 number, follow the instructions to leave a message for the officer and when prompted key in the officer’s identification number 1522.
Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, which is free and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
