A new festival is being held for the first time in Market Harborough next month to highlight green projects

The I Love Market Harborough festival was officially launched last month and a date has now been announced.

The free event on Saturday, July 19, will take place on The Square and is being organised by green group Sustainable Harborough.

It will feature numerous stalls, activities across the town and guest speakers at the town’s Angel Hotel in High Street.

The festival is aiming to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness in the Harborough community.

It will provide activities for all ages, including stalls for children, and information on a variety of topics about sustainability for adults.

Children are being invited to join in with the arts and crafts stall, creating banners from recycled cloth, while adults will be able to enjoy cookery demonstrations which use less food waste.

Although the main hive of activity will be based on The Square, activities will spread across town and include a drop-in centre for advice on energy bills, a live radio roadshow from HFM, a girl guiding stall and talks on topics such as community gardens and renewable energy at the Angel Hotel.

Sustainable Harborough will also launch its new Food Map project at the event.

The map will show all the producers and stockists of local produce, demonstrating to people exactly how easy it is to source their food and drink from sustainable sources.

The group’s community project officer Jo Sharman said: “We’re really excited to announce the first ever I Love Market Harborough festival, and are sure it will be a fun and informative day for all.

“Families, business owners and home owners can all gain something from the day as there will be plenty of information on energy saving, sourcing local produce and generally becoming more sustainable as a community.”

Sustainable Harborough is a Lottery-funded project aiming to create a more inclusive and vibrant community, with improved environmental awareness and lower carbon emissions.
