Customers of a gym that closed unexpectedly have raised concerns over whether they will receive refunds on their membership.

The Mail has received several calls over the last week from Fit Zone gym users who are worried getting their money back.

A sign was put up on the doors of the gym, on the Riverside Industrial Estate, about a fortnight ago saying it was closed until further notice.

Gym owner Perry Crick said on Tuesday that his firm would soon be going into administration.

The gym was opened in 2011 by bodybuilder Mr Crick – a three-times winner of the British Open Championship and a Mr Universe contestant – and his partner Gail Bellingham, a competitor in National Amateur Body-Builders’ Association of Britain championships.

Mr Crick came ninth in the Mr Universe competition held in Germany in 2005 and has competed in many other bodybuilding contests.

Fit Zone was furnished in 2011 with more than £100,000 worth of new equipment.

Last year the gym played host to a visit by ex-Gladiator star Enigma.

Some members the Mail spoke to said they had paid membership up front for the whole year.

Others expressed sadness about gym’s closure on social media websites Twitter and Facebook.

Mr Crick’s statement read: “It is with deepest regret that Fit Zone Midlands Ltd will shortly be going into administration due to circumstances beyond my control.

“Any new developments will be put on our website at www.fitzonegym.co.uk.”
