Hundreds of people went back to basics with traditional British games for the fourth annual Husbands Bosworth Conker Contest on Sunday.
Conkers butted heads as people pitted their wits against each other for the quintessentially British hobby before stepping up and giving welly-wanging a go.
Ralph Horton, one of the organisers, said: “We had a wonderful day and were blessed with good sunshine if a little on the windy side.
“About 350 people of very mixed age groups attended.
“We raised about £1,000, after costs, which will enable us to donate £600 to Cancer Research UK and support various village amenities including the village hall, church hall, the tots’ group and the proposed village defibrillator.”
The conker champs were: men’s Mike Scott, women’s Wendy Smith, ages nine to 12 Sebastian Fernandez-Smith, ages six to eight Elliott Hurrell, team Butter Chicken.
Welly-wanging winners were men’s Jason Smith, women’s Lorrie Forman, ages 12-15 Ewan Anderson, under-12s Charlie Deane.
In addition to an array of stalls there was entertainment from The South Leicestershire Ukulele Group, The Bakanalia Morris Men and a display of birds of prey provided by Kinder Falconry.
