Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempt to steal new rugby posts from a Harborough park.
The incident happened at Welland Park at around 8.55pm on Thursday, October 3 when two men were spotted trying to take the posts down.
They were unsuccessful but damage was caused to the posts.
The posts - installed to mark the two-year countdown tothe Rugby World Cup in this country - have since been removed by Harborough District Council.
Special Constable Ash Chetnik, who is looking into the incident said: “We are looking into the possibility that the suspects had a vehicle with them that was parked in the playground car park just off Farndon road. This could be a red van similar in style to a Ford Transit, with no markings.
“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or believes they may information about who is responsible.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Special Constable 5456 Ash Chetnik on 101 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted, key in his identification number 5456.
