A former Mail photographer and his wife have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Peter (82) and Stella (79) Elliott, of Welford Road, Arnesby, met as teenagers on a school bus on their way to Kibworth Beauchamp Grammar School.

The couple marked 60 years of marriage last month with the best man from their wedding Ivan Smith and bridesmaids Jane Hall and Brenda Jeffery.

Mrs Elliott said: “The bus used to stop near the farm owned by Peter’s family and I used to get off the bus and have a word with him while he was milking the cows.

“I am from Leicester but my father kept the Shoulder of Mutton pub, at Arnesby.”

Stella worked for the Singer sewing machine company and was a director of the Leicestershire and Rutland Federation of women’s institutes from 1992 to 95. The couple have three daughters
