A Harborough estate agency and chartered surveyors are expanding their business by opening a new branch in Oakham.
Later this month Tim Brown will be heading up the latest branch of James Sellicks from its new premises in Oakham on the corner of Catmose Street and Mill Street.
James Sellicks (pictured, inset), who owns the business, opened his first branch in Leicester’s Granby Street in August 1997, followed by the Harborough office in Church Street in 2004.
The business has for some time operated in Rutland via two offices, but with the worst of the recession over, the firm felt the time was right to open a dedicated branch to serve Rutland.
Mr Sellicks and Mr Brown say they will be pooling their years of experience in the property industry to provide the highest possible service to existing and future clients.
Since starting his business 17 years ago, Mr Sellicks has built up a huge network of contacts in the area and has gained a reputation as one of the leading estate agents covering south-east Leicestershire and Rutland.
For many years he lived in Braunston and was married in the village church, and his children attend Oakham School.
He continues to sail and play golf in and around the county.
Mr Brown, who like Mr Sellicks is also a qualified chartered surveyor, brings with him a wealth of experience having been head of residential sales with a leading North Yorkshire firm, but has always had a strong desire to return to Leicestershire and Rutland after starting his working life in the property business here 30 years ago.
Mr Brown served in the Army for a long spell but has kept up with the many friends he made both during his time working for Michael Stops and since through hunting and playing cricket in Leicestershire and Rutland.
Mr Brown said: “I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been offered the challenge of heading up this new branch in Oakham.
“James and I share the same belief that client care is absolutely paramount in our business.
“Building a truly excellent team is my first and greatest challenge which is why we have invested a great deal of time since October going through this process.
“My goal is to set a new standard in terms of estate agency for the people of Rutland, to go beyond what is commonly expected of an agent so that my clients come back year after year, not necessarily to buy or sell but to seek advice on how to enhance their property.
“It has always puzzled me how we retain the same bank manager, doctor, financial adviser and so on year after year, yet we put our trust in an estate agent to handle the most expensive transaction of our life and as soon as completion takes place, too often the relationship ends.
“The quality of advice and the service provided by your estate agent should result in that same sense of loyalty so I shall endeavour to achieve just that in Rutland.”
