Seven Locks Housing’s development off Walcot Road in the town centre had an “official opening” after a 20-month improvement programme.

The independent living scheme has 67 one and two-bedroom apartments with kitchens and bathrooms, overlooking shared gardens and a courtyard.

There are also three communal lounges with kitchen facilities and a hobbies room, hairdressers, laundry room and guest suite, which have been decorated and furnished by an interior designer.

Gerald Taylor, group chief executive for Acclaim Housing Group, the parent company of Seven Locks Housing, said: “This is a major investment for the group, which highlights our commitment to providing excellent accommodation to enable older people to live independently in their own home.

“The stylish surroundings and exceptional facilities have created a vibrant and welcoming environment, which will help transform the lives of both current and future residents.”

The additional new apartments built by Boras Construction at Brooklands Gardens were part-funded by a £240,000 grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The scheme currently has 30 one and two-bedroom apartments available to rent, for anyone who is aged 60-plus and eligible to go on Leicestershire’s Housing Register.
