A YOUNG shepherd from the Lutterworth area scooped a prize in a national competition for young farmers.

Cameron Wainwright (12), from Willey, took the reserve championship last weekend in the eight to 12 category in the national final of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust’s Young Shepherd competition.

To earn his place in the final, Cameron had won an earlier qualifying round at the Royal County of Berkshire Show last year.

He was closely followed by his sister Eleanor (9). who had also qualified for the finals by winning a round at the East of England show in Peterborough.

Last weekend at Hatfield House County Show, Cameron and Eleanor were competing in the final against some 20 other young people from as far afield as Yorkshire and Devon.

Cameron demonstrated his expertise in the showring with his Shetland ram. He took away a prize of £25 plus a rosette.

Cameron owns his own small flocks of Hebridean and Shetland sheep.
