A PAPIER mache giraffe is helping one town business to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in cheerful style.

The 5ft animal will be helping to raise money for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance in a competition being run by Sandra Morgan of JLT Crafts in George Street, Lutterworth.

Children and adults alike are being invited to pop along to the shop and help choose a name for the giraffe, as well as helping to decorate it with red, white and blue paper in preparation for the Jubilee celebrations, which take place between Saturday, June 2, and the following Tuesday, June 5.

Mrs Morgan said: “The giraffe was the idea of my scrap book fairy who works in the shop, Caroline Ashrafi.

“We wanted to do something for the Jubilee celebrations as well as helping to raise money for a good cause.

“I’ve raised money for the Air Ambulance before because it’s a charity which someone might potentially need at any time, and I’ve spoken to lots of people who know someone who has benefited from it.”

Anyone who wants to enter the competition and help choose a name for the giraffe should visit JLT Crafts.

Mrs Morgan said the name must begin with an J, L or T and it will be drawn from a hat closer to the time of the Jubilee celebrations.

The winner will receive a miniature giraffe of their own.

A big party is being planned at the Coventry Road recreation ground, including a torch relay around the town, as part of this year’s Jubilee celebrations in Lutterworth.
