A WRITER is running a half-marathon through Birmingham to raise money for charity.

Daryl Wing, a freelance writer who lives in Harborough, is taking on the Bupa Great Birmingham Run on October 21.

He is doing the half-marathon to raise money for East Midlands Dog Rescue which has been rescuing and re-homing abandoned dogs for 20 years.

Mr Wing, pictured right, said: “Based in Enderby, they save dogs that haven’t been given a chance in life, working tirelessly to ensure that every dog has more than just its day.”

He is aiming to raise £500 by doing the run and is nearing his target.

Mr Wing said: “This is my first attempt at running such a distance – in fact, before I started training I had never even run a couple of miles, let alone over 13.”

He works as a volunteer at East Midlands Dog Rescue and says that a lot of the dogs there have found homes within the Harborough district.

He is pictured here with two dogs the centre has re-homed.
