Woodburning stove firm submits plan to convert town pub

A FORMER Lutterworth pub could be converted into a shop which sells woodburner stoves.

The Cavalier, in Market Street, has lain empty since it closed its doors in October 2010 following the retirement of its former landlady.

The Woodburner Workshop, which already has a showroom at the Ladywood Works in Lutterworth, has submitted a planning application to make a number of alterations to the Grade II-listed building.

National pub chain Wetherspoons had been linked to the vacant site around last Christmas, but the firm announced about a month ago that it was no longer interested.

In the planning documents, KPW, the architects, said: “The building is currently vacant and in a poor state of repair.

“If left in its current state it will continue to deteriorate.

“The proposals offer a sympathetic solution to bringing a building back into use as something which is appropriate.”
