THE RELATIVE success of Harborough’s High Street during tough economic times was trumpeted on a national radio show.
BBC radio 4 reporter Bob Walker visited the town on Wednesday last week for a feature on successful town centres.
The resulting item, broadcast on the You and Yours consumer affairs programme at midday on Friday, featured an interview with town wine merchant Duncan Murray.
The item on Harborough starts about 12 minutes in. Listen to the show.
Duncan told the programme how the recent bid to become part of the Portas Pilot town centre improvement scheme had brought the community together.
Speaking to the Mail this week, Duncan said the reporter had called in at his Adam and Eve shop to ask some questions about the success of Harborough town centre.
Duncan told the Mail: “I wanted to get across that the success of the town depends on everybody. which is something that came up during the Mary Portas bid process.”
The item also featured an interview with a Kettering couple, who praised the town for its range of shops and cafés, as well as cheap parking.
A retail expert said the town had a good balance of independent and chain stores.
