THE ROAR of pitched battle will echo through the fields on Easter Monday as Hallaton and Medbourne take each other on in the ancient tradition of Bottle Kicking.

Hallaton hold the current bragging rights after winning the best two-out-of-three contest last year.

So Medbourne will want to do all they can this year to reverse the result.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the contest, which usually attracts a number of Leicester Tigers players.

This year’s event will start at 9.30am with the parade through Medbourne, traditionally held to ‘wake’ the villagers.

At 10.30am there will be the children’s parade in Hallaton leading to the church, where there will be a service at 11am.

The Hare Pie parade from the Fox Inn at Hallaton to the church gates starts at about 1.45pm, with the parade making it to the field of play shortly before kick-off at about 3pm.

* Organisers run a car park off the Medbourne Road entrance to Hallaton with space for about 400 vehicles.

Parking costs £3 per vehicle, which helps cover the costs of the event, with any surplus to local good causes.
