Waterfield homes appeal dismissed

A DECISION by Harborough District Council to refuse planning permission for 20 homes on land off Waterfield Place in Harborough has been upheld by a planning inspector.

The application was for 20 houses with associated parking and public open space.

The decision to refuse the application was made on the basis that the development would effect the character and appearance of the area and on the separation of Harborough and Great Bowden.

A refusal was given in September last year.

Planning inspector Sarah Coleborne dismissed the planning appeal against the committee’s decision.

Cllr Phil Knowles who has campaigned against the development said the decision to uphold the refusal was important for both residents in Harborough and Great Bowden.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the decision was taken to dismiss the appeal.

“The ruling by the inspector carried a number of important points including the importance of the separation land.

“The whole report will undoubtedly be a very important document for the future of the Harborough district.”

A spokesman for the council said: “The council is pleased its decision has been upheld and is committed to delivering appropriate development in the District through its Core Strategy.”
