Vibrant new library is firing pupils’ imaginations
Pupils are getting excited about reading at Little Bowden Primary School after the opening of its new library.
The library forms part of the new extension at the school and was designed and kitted out thanks to £15,000 of donations from the school’s PTA and the Market Harborough and the Bowdens Charity.
It is the first time the school, which is more than 100 years old, has enjoyed a purpose built library.
Belinda Smithies, English co-ordinator at the school in Scotland Road, said: “It has been so exciting to be involved in designing such a modern, welcoming room where the children feel excited about reading.”
Not only was a design company employed to create the vibrant library, there is also a librarian, Miss Woodham, to advise children on their book choices in the afternoons.
Miss Woodham said: “The children love coming to the library. They have been busy making displays for the walls and getting involved in competitions.”
The school’s next challenge is to raise money to buy more books.
The school’s PTA will soon be packing shopping bags in Sainsbury’s on Saturday, March 9 to raise funds.
They hope to not only buy books, but also some laptops for the library’s research corner.
