Two withdrawals from police race

TWO potential police commissioners from the Harborough district who threw their hats into the ring early in the process of choosing the county’s future police chief are no longer in the race.

West Langton man Rick Moore withdrew from the forthcoming elections – which are to take place in November this year – while Conservative politician Rosita Page has not been selected to go any further in the process by her party.

However, former Harborough man David Bowley – whose mother Edna was a former chairman of Harborough District Council – has said that he is standing.

Mr Moore, the co-founder of Moore and York estate agents, said he had decided the process was ‘not for him’.

He added: “I have decided to withdraw completely. As an independent I cannot compete with the mainstream parties.”

Cllr Page, who is a former chairman of Harborough District Council, said she was disappointed not to be selected by her party but was looking forward to becoming the vice-chairman of Leicestershire County Council this year.

She added: “It means next year I may be the chairman.”

Mr Bowley, who lives in Leicester’s Frog Island, is a former Harborough man. He has taken part in elections for the Leicester West MP and the Leicester mayor in recent years.
