Take the plunge with SwiMarathon Rotary Club event

Swimmers are being urged to make a big splash for charity at Harborough Leisure Centre next weekend.

There is still time to get involved in Harborough Rotary Club’s third annual SwiMarathon event, which is a sponsored swim which sees teams of up to six people try to tackle as many lengths as possible.

About 35 teams have already signed up, which is more than last year, but the organisers said there is still time for people to get on board.

Local businesses are also still being sought to help with sponsoring the event.

Proceeds from the SwiMarathon will be going to Harborough-based charities, deserving causes and community groups. Last year, the club was able to give out £7,000 in grants to various groups.

In April, groups will be able to apply for the grants through the Harborough Mail.

The event is at the leisure centre, off Northampton Road, on Saturday, March 16, and Sunday, March 17. It runs from 4pm until 8pm both days.

There are many teams who entered last year coming back for a second year – but who have also brought along more friends. The emphasis is more on having fun than on serious competition.

If you would like to enter a team, call rotarian Rennie Quinn on 07753 684 048.
