GENEROUS readers have aided children in need of gifts this Christmas by coming forward in droves to support the Toys on The Table appeal.

The Mail appealed to people in the district two weeks ago to help the annual Toys on the Table charity provide gifts for children who might otherwise have none when Christmas comes around.

Since then, about 100 gifts have been dropped off at our office in Northampton Road.

People’s generosity has been remarkable, with books and cuddly bears being donated as well as dinosaur toys, mini monster trucks and a ride-on car.

Last Christmas, the Toys on the Table appeal helped almost 4,000 children.

The appeal seeks donations of new gifts which are then presented to underprivileged Leicestershire children at Christmas.

Residents in the district have really got behind the campaign in previous years with hundreds of toys being donated.

Last year about 8,000 toys were donated across the county which went to 3,914 children.

Terry Watts, chairman of the Toys on the Table trustees, said: “We hope to beat the 4,000-mark this year.

“We are always very grateful to the people of the Harborough district and the Harborough Mail for their support each year.”

To help this year’s campaign or to refer a child for a gift, phone Mr Watts on 07977 131916.

Drop in toys to our office at 9 Northampton Road, Harborough. The office is open from 9am to 5pm from Mondays to Fridays.
