Sports pitch may get a £10K boost

A PANEL has recommended that Fleckney Parish Council receives £10,000 to install a multi-use sports pitch.

The Grants Panel of Harborough District Council met on Thursday last week to discuss the merits of applications from across the district.

Although the panel made a number of recommendations as to who should receive a share of the Section 106 cash that has become available, the final decision on which projects should get the money will be made by full council on November 12.

Fleckney Parish Council wants to install a basketball and football multi-use pitch on the Lodge Road recreation ground in
Fleckney to include basketball hoops, kick goals and a cricket wicket.

The parish council provided evidence of the need for this facility through its Young Persons’ Questionnaire which showed 60 per cent of 11- to 14-year-olds who responded to the survey would use such a pitch.

The village’s 2010 Parish Plan, also identified the need for improved and expanded facilities at the recreation ground.

4The panel also recommended Kibworth Band receive a grant of £2,815 to help refurbish its
hall.

But an application by Great Glen Tennis Club for £102,380 to create new tennis courts in Great Glen was not supported.

Kibworth History Society applied for £1,805 for ICT equipment to store the society’s collection and run its website. This was also not supported by the panel.

St Wilfrid’s Church in Kibworth applied for £24,760.75 for excavation of paths and work to make the disabled and wheelchair access compliant with regulations. The panel asked for a revised quote as it was felt compliance with the regulations was the responsibility of the church.
