A BUSINESS in Harborough is acting as a collection point for glasses which will then be sent to The Third World.

Bray & Bray Solicitors will be collecting the spectacles on behalf of the Harborough Twenty 12 Lions Club.

The Lions have always had an involvement in eyesight-related projects, ever since being challenged by Helen Keller to be “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” in 1925.

Bray & Bray will be collecting the glasses from now until the end of March this year, and they can be dropped off at its offices in 51 High Street, from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5.30pm.

Martin Hill, of Bray & Bray, said: “Everyone is conscious of the merits of recycling, and this is also a practical solution to a Third-World problem - a perfect win-win.

“This is part of Harborough Twenty 12 Lions Club’s involvement in supporting the eyesight-related work of Lions Clubs International.”

Harborough Twenty 12 Lions have run an annual spectacle collection for the last four years and it has been very successful to date.

The glasses are sorted centrally by Chichester Lions in conjunction with a French Lions club before being sent to third-world countries.
