School closure plan put out to consultation

A CONSULTATION is to take place over the possible closure of a primary school near Harborough.

Braybrooke Primary School in Church Close, Braybrooke, could close because of falling pupil numbers.

Its intake is made up almost entirely from the travellers’ community.

Northamptonshire County Council gave the green light for a public consultation on the proposal this week following a request from school governors.

A report was taken as a cabinet member decision on Tuesday which set the consultation boundaries. It will run from Tuesday, September 18, until October 24. This will include a public meeting at the school on September 25 at 6pm.

Depending on the result of the consultation, the process would then move onto the statutory closure stage with a final decision taken by cabinet in February next year.

If a decision is taken to close the school, all the pupils would be allocated places in schools near to their home address.

A report on the proposal is at www.northamptonshire.gov.uk.
