A SUMMER evening walk has helped to raise more than £10,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Walk Ten at Boughton House, near Geddington, is a ten kilometre walk which took place last Saturday (Sept 1).

Taking part in the walk was Ruth Grieves, of Harborough, who wanted to help raise funds for Marie Curie so that their nurses could care for more patients at home.

Ruth said: “Marie Curie Cancer Care provides invaluable support to people who are terminally ill.

“Marie Curie Nurses cared for my grandfather who passed away in 2010 at home.

“The nurses were absolutely amazing and the care he received was fantastic. They made sure he died with dignity and pride, whilst also supporting us as a family.”

She added that it felt good to be raising money for a charity that means so much to her.

The walk finished on Saturday with fireworks, music and a picnic to celebrate the work of Marie Curie Nurses.

The nurses provide free care to people with terminal
illnesses in their own homes and in the charity’s hospices.

Marie Curie expect that the event at Boughton House will raise £33,000 in total.

There were 648 participants at the walk in the grounds of Boughton House which made it the biggest walk in the whole of the region this year.

Walk Ten is sponsored by home emergency insurer HomeServe.

People can sign up now for next year’s event at www.mariecurie.org.uk or phone 08700 340040.
