Big-hearted staff at RS Components have made it a record-breaking year for fundraising – netting £69,094 for good causes in 2012.

The figure raised is £5,000 more than last year, and has supported a host of charities including the Alzheimer’s Society, Mind, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer Research.

To support activities across the company, a group of employees formed a charitable forum called RS My Community, to promote, celebrate and help manage a growing number of employee-led initiatives.

So far, they have included a fire walk, which raised £13,200, charity sky dives, coffee mornings, phone recycling and a Halloween fun day.

Toni Jarvis, head of marketing planning, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the money raised and the fact that, in these difficult times, we have yet again exceeded our previous years’ totals of £64,000 in 2011 and £51,748 in 2010.

“It is an absolutely fantastic achievement.

“It’s great that in such a big company, people are coming together and we have been able to support employees’ requests, which can be through fundraising and also through people giving up their own time.”

The firm has also backed schools, recently donating £10,000 to Tresham College for engineering equipment.
