Recipe competition to help reduce waste

LEFTOVERS from your Christmas dinner can be turned into excellent dishes to feed people after the event, and now there is a competition to find the best recipe for them.

The competition has been launched by Leicestershire Waste Partnership. It is hoped the competition will reduce waste through sharing leftover recipes.

Anyone who has a recipe that would help others use up leftover turkey, brussel sprouts, Christmas puddings and everything in between should email it to wasteprevention@leics.gov.uk or enter the competition through Facebook at www.facebook.com/leicestershiregreenefamily.

People who provide their name and phone number could win an eco-kettle. The winners will be announced on Friday, December 17.

People can cut back on food waste by freezing food, planning meals, making a shopping list and trying out turkey currys and risotto recipes.

Free classes showing people how to cook up a treat using leftovers are currently being held around the county.
