‘Please help end my torment’

THE WIDOW of a man killed when he was hit by a car in a country lane last December has spoken of her torment of being no closer to knowing what happened to him seven months on.
Simon Ware was 44 when he died last year after being hit by a car and a van in Ashby Road near Bitteswell on the evening of December 19 – just days before Christmas.
After hitting Mr Ware, the driver of the car left the scene without stopping and has never been traced.
Despite offering a £5,000 reward for information about her husband’s death, his widow Dee Ware says she is distraught that no-one has so far stepped forward to offer fresh information.
She has issued a heartfelt plea for someone to come forward with what could be a potentially-vital piece in the jigsaw puzzle to help her piece together what happened.
Mrs Ware (53), who lives in Broughton Astley, said: “It has left me devastated.
“But that’s been compounded by the first driver, who simply drove away, not being traced.
“Someone out there knows how this happened.
“Someone knows who was driving that first car, or knows who repaired it afterwards.”
Mrs Ware said she did not know why her husband would be walking along Ashby Road.
Earlier this year, she criticised police after her husband’s death for not immediately sealing off the accident scene.
Police said they had not done so because Mr Ware’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Mr Ware, who had attended a job interview in Loughborough only hours before his death, was a chartered instrument and electrical engineer who worked for British Gas.
He was originally from Barry in Wales.
Lawyers from Fenton Solicitors, who are acting on behalf of Mrs Ware, said they are trying to gather their own evidence about the case.
Michelle Sutton, from the firm, said: “Even if witnesses have already given statements to the police, I need them to get in touch with me.
“The police investigation into the incident is still ongoing, which means they are unable to release any statements or evidence.
“I am therefore urging anyone who might have helpful information – no matter how insignificant they think it might be – to get in touch.”
