A WALK supported by much of Welford was organised in memory of a woman from the village who died from breast cancer last year.

Pam Sutton died aged 58 on September 28, 2011.

Her daughters, Jo and Natalie Sutton, of High Street, Welford, together with Pam’s friends Lin Waddilove and Pam Lane organised The Bosom Beauties Walk 2012 to raise cash for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.

The event has so far raised £2,000 and Jo is hopeful that once all donations and sponsorship are in, they will hit the £3,000 mark.

Jo said: “It went really well. We had 68 walkers in the end.

“It was mostly locals from the village who were all friends of my mum. There was some family there and some of my sister’s friends but the whole village were really supportive of it.

“We have had donations from the pub and from the shop and people who hadn’t walked.”

Women at the event were encouraged to decorate their bras to wear during the walk and there was a prize for the best- dressed bra.

The walk covered a distance of about six miles around Welford. Breakthrough Breast Cancer is dedicated to saving lives by finding the causes of breast cancer and improving detection, diagnosis, treatment and support services.

Jo said: “It was really positive. We were lucky that the weather was so nice.

“It was a bit sad for us , but just the support and the amount raised, I know mum would have been proud.”

She thanked everyone who supported them, either by taking part or by giving donations..
