Paula Elmer bids for Worst Garden award

Paula Elmer with her Great Danes.

OUR first entry in the Harborough Mail Great Garden Awards this year is from Paula Elmer in the Worst Garden category.

She has lived in Meadow Street, Harborough, for 24 years and said she has tried very hard to make her garden nice.

But since getting two Great Dane pups, now 17 months old and loved very much, the garden is, in her words “totally trashed”!

She has fenced it off to try to let the lawn grow but recent rain has left it very muddy.

She also has a Cavalier Spaniel which doesn’t cause half the mess the Great Danes do. She used to have a Great Dane which died so she went to get another one and ended up with two!

At the moment she has a ‘decking’ area (in reality, just wooden boards), which is falling to bits and she would love to have it done properly.

The 48-year-old’s dream is to make her garden more dog-friendly with raised flower beds. Paula works evenings at one of Harborough’s stores and still has time to look after her daughter’s two horses during the day.

Unfortunately she doesn’t have the time or money to make the changes she wants so is hoping her garden is judged to be the worst.

The prize is £200 worth of landscaping materials.
