Palace date for Chris

AN ENGINEERING executive has received his OBE from Prince Charles during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Chris Price (61), of Mowsley Road, Husbands Bosworth, was named in the New Year's Honours List for services to engineering.

He was joined by his wife Sylvia and children Geoffrey and Anne as he collected the medal during a ceremony on June 11.

Mr Price, who is honorary treasurer of the Royal Academy of Engineering, spoke to the Prince about meeting the Duke of Edinburgh at the academy’s recent awards dinner.

He said: “I told him his father was a great supporter and he asked about whether we were getting younger people into engineering, so I replied that we were. The conversation lasted about 45 seconds and then you get a handshake. It was a lovely do.”

Mr Price worked for British United Shoe Machinery in Leicester and later joined Rolls Royce.

In addition to his role at the Royal Academy of Engineering, Mr Price is a fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Engineers.

Although now retired from full-time work, he still acts as a consultant for Rolls Royce.
