MP family's three cars are stolen

HARBOROUGH'S MP, who speaks for his party on law and order, had three cars stolen from outside his home in London.

Shadow Minister for Home Affairs Edward Garnier QC had gone out for the evening with wife Anna when keys for the family's vehicles were taken from their property in Stockwell.

His daughter, Eleanor (22) was alone at the address when she heard a noise but assumed it was her father.

It was only the next morning they realised Mr Garnier's Audi A4, his wife's VW Golf and his daughter's Ford Fiesta had gone.

The Audi was recovered by police yesterday (Wednesday) just off the M20 in Maidstone, Kent.

But Mr Garnier was not holding out much hope of it being returned: "It depends what state it's in, I suppose."

He added: "There's no point getting the heebie-jeebies about it.

"I feel a mixture of relief my daughter was not injured or attacked, because most burglaries are committed by people on drugs or people doing it to get money for drugs – they are desperate people. If someone is in their way they could just give them a whack or even stab them.

"Secondly I feel angry and annoyed someone should break into my home and take from me."

Mr Garnier said Eleanor had heard someone in the house that night and had gone to investigate.

Fortunately there was no-one there but she noticed a man hanging around outside.

It is not the first time Mr Garnier has been a victim of crime.

Six years ago thieves shinned a drainpipe and broke into his home through a sky-light.

Expensive silver was taken and the room smashed up.
