Maternity leave to start for health centre doctor

A DOCTOR at Market Harborough Medical Centre is due to go on maternity leave this week but patients will still be looked after in her absence.

Dr Sonia Rai is going on maternity leave at the end of this week before the birth of her first child which is due in December.

She has been at the centre for two years and has built up a full patients list in that time.

Dr Amit Chawla will take on Dr Rai’s patients while she is on maternity leave.

Dr Rai said: “My husband and I are very much looking forward to the birth of our first child.

“I am grateful for the support from my patients and look forward to seeing them all again when I return to the surgery next year.”

Dr Chawla undertook his GP training at Market Harborough Medical Centre.

He has been working there since July providing holiday cover for other doctors.
