FRIENDS of a seriously ill man who was hit with two major health scares in little over a month have banded together to organise a football match to support his family.
Pals of Pat Molloy (32), of Desborough, will play against the newly formed Kettering Football Club next month after he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour at the start of July.
As he was preparing to start his treatment, Mr Molloy suffered a stroke at the end of August and is currently at Kettering General Hospital starting his long road to recovery.
His wife Lorraine (30) said: “We were just getting over the shock of his tumour when he had his stroke and that sent us back to the beginning.
“It’s been so hard for the children as they haven’t been able to see their dad.
“We’re trying to remain positive and hopefully we will have a happier Christmas next year.”
The game will be held at Raunds Town FC on Sunday, November 4, and will be a game between Mr Molloy’s friends and the newly-established Kettering team. All funds raised will go to his family, who have been hit hard financially with repeated trips to hospital in Oxford.
Family friend Justin Lovegrove (31) said: “No-one deserves to go through what he’s going through. It’s so sad to see him like this.”
A raffle will take place after the game, which will kick off at 1.30pm.
Tickets on the gate will cost £5, but admission will be free for under-16s. Gates will open at midday.
People can donate raffle prizes by calling Justin on 07775 430319.
