Marathon effort by doctor boosts dementia charity

A consultant psychiatrist raised £150 for Harborough independent charity the Dementia Café.

Dr Mangesh Marudkar, of the South Leicestershire Community Mental Health Team based at the Cedars Centre in South Wigston, completed the Leicester Marathon in November.

He raised money from sponsors and supporters who work with him advising and diagnosing those with dementia in Oadby and Wigston and Harborough district areas.

Gaynor Everitt, a community psychiatric nurse in Dr Marudkar’s team, who is also a trustee of the Harborough Dementia Café, handed a cheque to chairman of trustees Steve Kendall at a meeting of the café.

Mr Kendall said: “Both the Harborough and Oadby-based Dementia cafes have been formed to help address the isolation and need for practical information that members seek following diagnosis.”
